Gary Finning Jr.

Gary Finning Jr., 49, of Guilderland died suddenly March 18, 2025 at home. Born in Albany Gary was a lifelong area resident. He was the owner and proprietor of Casey Finn's Pub & Grill on Yates Street in Albany for many years. Gary is survived by his wife of 22 years (together for 32 years) Sarah Martin Finning, daughter Gabrielle Finning, and his brothers Casey Trejo (Lindsey) and Johnson Casey (Wendy). He was predeceased by his mother Patricia Casey, and maternal grandparents Francis Joseph and Beverly Kahl Casey. Nephew of John (Elvira) Casey and the late Mike Casey (MaryAnne), Collen Koonz (Marvin) and Catherine Colvin (George). Uncle to Daniella, Isabella, and Camilla. Special "brother" to Michael Casey, Ramel Miller, and Brian Smith. Special "son" to Maggie Smith and Mickey Miller. Favorite cousin to many and special "uncle" to several. Countless best friends that he loved, who entertained each other's mornings and various times throughout any given day. Gary Finning aka "Doughboy" was a rock among pebbles. The life of the party. The glue that held it all together. He was everyone's sought after best friend. A generous, thoughtful, funny, and kind soul. He was a husband, father, brother, uncle, and cousin to most importantly his family, but also to many more. He redefined the typical term of "family", creating a massive circle around him of people who loved and cared for each other. All were welcome at the table. He took much pride in his heritage and all of the family members who came before him. It was Gary's passion and purpose to carry on his family's legacy of his grandparents' bar, Putzy's. Reinventing it as own, with much success, Casey Finn's. He could single handedly pack the place with his presence alone. No one walked out of the door without a story to tell! Gary met his wife Sarah at a young age, and they grew up together building a family and life that resulted in the success of many others who were assisted and touched by them and their generosity. He spent many hours and received so much joy bringing his brother Casey to hockey and watching him grow into the man he has become today. His precious daughter Gabbi was the light of his life. He loved her with no end and lived every day to be there for her and show her how special she was. He would brag to everyone about her, often playing their favorite songs on the jukebox for all to hear. Gary will be sorely missed by all of the people whose lives he touched. It can't go without saying that the people closest to Gary are most proud of him for this past year. In the face of adversity Gary stood up and fought back and did all the right things to get himself back stronger and better than ever. He had the strength and desire to be with us for many more years, which makes his unexpected passing much more difficult. Although we know that Gary was one of a kind and could never be replaced, we ask that everyone continue to keep his spirit alive and continue his legacy. Be kind, make people laugh, enjoy life to the fullest, respect one another's differences, don't judge, and silently help when you see someone in need. We call on everyone to carry on these values through Casey Finns, continue to love and support one another, keep that door wide open for everyone and continue to allow those who once may have been a stranger to leave with new friends and family. Funeral Services will be held Monday morning 10AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Magin & Keegan Funeral Home 891 Madison Ave. Sunday from 3 to 7 pm.
