Suzanne Bashwinger

Suzanne Bashwinger, 78, passed away with family by her side on January 8, 2023. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on August 29, 1944, Suzanne was the only daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Moore) Buchert. Suzanne was particularly close to her father, whose intelligence, drive, and passion for medicine were qualities that also trademarked Suzanne’s life. Suzanne is survived, remembered, and loved by her husband of 34 years, Wayne; her children, Marie (Stephen), James, and Patrick (Debra); his children, William, Walter, Leona, Wayne (Kari), West, and Warren (Nicki); her grandchildren, Amanda, Beau, Marissa, Lucas, and Matthew; her great-granddaughter, Caisley; and her Yorkshire Terriers, Finn and Fiona. Suzanne enjoyed challenging her mind and continuously improving her skills. While raising a family, she earned her degree in nursing and subsequently served as a Registered Nurse at Albany Medical Center for over 30 years. Passionately living a life of service, Suzanne became a fixture in the Pediatric Pulmonary Care Unit, where she formed lifelong friendships with her colleagues. Infamously late, Suzanne thrived on her independence and lived on her own timeline. When she wasn’t working, Suzanne could be found at the hair salon, visiting with family, shopping, decorating her home, or cooking a meal for her and Wayne to enjoy together. Suzanne was an avid reader with a particular affinity for mystery and suspense novels. Her other simple pleasures included crosswords, the color purple, and sunflowers. Above all, Suzanne was a natural-born caretaker who devoted herself to her family. Wayne will remember her patience, tenderness, and their shared love of country music. Suzanne’s spirit will live on through Marie in her smile and her warmth, through James in his sensitivity and his kindness, and through Patrick in his intelligence and his humor. Suzanne’s grandchildren will always remember the comfort of her heart and home. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Suzanne’s life on January 13, 2023 from 4PM to 6PM at Magin and Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Suzanne’s memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
