James Noonan

November 3, 1961 - November 2, 2016

 James Noonan, 54, of Albany died on November 2, 2016, from tonsil cancer. James was predeceased by his parents, Robert P. Noonan and Kathleen Jones; and two brothers, John and Bob. He is survived by his sisters, Trish Noonan and Mary Laporte (Jeff). Jim is also survived by his loving family at the Homeless Action Committee (H.A.C.) who supported him throughout his stay, and were his caretakers for the past two months. The staff at the Single Room Occupancy went above and beyond and were phenomenal in taking care of all of his needs in a compassionate and loving member. His H.A.C. family includes, director, Donna DeMaria; S.R.O. Staff, Adine Taylor (case manager), Cody Arana (program manager), Abe Ali, Lance Burt, Megan Harrington, Kayla Williams, Damon Carey, Alysha Kennedy and Tatiana Melendez; H.A.C. Van Staff, Kim Kelley, Tiana Maron, Ptah Ivery, Stephanie Deyo, Yaneska Meija and Will Stevenson; fellow tenants of the S.R.O.; and Kevin of the J&K Garage located next door. Jim was stubborn, which helped him fight the disease. He walked out of the hospital two months ago, deciding he did not want to die in the hospital, but wanted to do so at home. The H.A.C. staff stepped forward to ensure he did not die on the streets, this meant learning tracheal care, tube feeding, etc. Jim was always pleasant, never complained and had a smile on his face every day. He encouraged the H.A.C. staff who took care of him, with a “good job” or by telling us step-by-step how to do things. He was clearly uncomfortable and in pain, but never mentioned this. He was a fighter until the end and taught everyone so much. He was sweet, mild mannered and had a great attitude. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and told great jokes. He loved animals and fed all of the stray cats next door. He was also an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, loving the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. The H.A.C. would like to thank all of the staff who cared for Jim and were extraordinary. The H.A.C. would also like to thank the Community hospice for their outstanding care and Dr. Robert and Leanne Paeglow for their excellent care given to Jim. Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, November 7, at the Magin & Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave., Albany. A service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Albany Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
