Constance "Connie" Hughes

Constance “Connie” Stackman Hughes passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025 at the Shaker Place Rehab and Nursing Center in Albany, NY. Connie was born on April 20, 1931 in Albany, NY, the daughter of George Jr and Margaret Stackman. Connie is predeceased by her husband, Robert “Bob” Hughes, daughters Debbie Hughes Smith, and Colleen Hughes Driscoll; grandson Sam George Hughes; her brother George Stackman III, sister Margaret (Peggy) Engel, brother-in-law Robert Engel, sister Virginia Stackman and sister-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Stackman. Connie worked for the D&H Railroad for several years following her graduation from Albany High School in 1949. Connie and Bob were married for nearly 62 years and had 7 children. Connie stayed home after the birth of her first child, taking care of things at home while Bob worked for the State & Post Office. In her free time Connie enjoyed bingo, bowling, and shopping with her mom, sisters & cousins. Connie enjoyed having her kids and grandkids over for Friday night dinners cooking for as few as 6 or as many as 16 or more. And as a family walking down the street to the National Little League to watch one of her sons playing baseball or umping, rooting for both or sometimes working the concession stand. Connie leaves behind five children; Maureen (Fred) Wege, Michael (Missy) Hughes, Patrick (Wendy Orr) Hughes, John Hughes and Steven (Lisa) Hughes. Her grandchildren; James, Thomas, Michael Steven, Jennifer, Christopher, Ryan, Kristi, Marci, Laci, Lindsey, Kayleigh, Mikey, Lexi, Robert, Jack, Molly, Ben, Leah, Nick & Ali. And 22 great grandchildren with number 23 due anytime. Connie is survived my many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Staff at Shaker Place Rehab & Nursing Center for their kindness and care for the time Connie spent with them. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning 9am at Mater Christi Roman Catholic Church, 40 Hopewell Street, Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Magin & Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave. on Wednesday from 4 to 7pm. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Berne will follow immediately after the funeral service. Those wishing to donate in lieu of flowers may do so to a charity of their choosing.
