M. Colleen Hughes - Driscoll

M. Colleen Hughes Driscoll 1954 - 2023 Colleen Driscoll, 68, passed away in the city and home that she loved so much and joined her father and her sister who she loved far more. Colleen was born and raised in Albany. After moving to E. Greenbush to raise her kids, she couldn’t wait to move back. Colleen was the oldest of seven children [Debbie (Mike Smith), Maureen (Fred Wege), Michael (Missy), Patrick (Wendy), John, Steven (Lisa)] and the proud daughter of Robert and Connie Hughes. Colleen was predeceased by her father and her sister, Debbie. Colleen is survived by her two sons, James (Nicoll) and Thomas (Stefanie) Driscoll and her five grandchildren that loved their “Nana” beyond measure (Dylan, Ethan, Lincoln, Elliot, and Austin “A”). Colleen loved so many things; from helping organize grade school reunions (St. Teresa’s) and attending high school reunions (Mercy High), she loved to point out that she started working for NYS the very day she graduated high school. Colleen was very proud of her 40+ year career with NYS; beginning as a stenographer and retiring as the Director of OMG (with many DOH stops and commissioners along the way). In addition to her love of work, Colleen was known for her love of Thanksgiving that combined some of her favorite things- good cooking, strong family, and coffee with dessert! Though not a huge fan of retirement, Colleen worked tirelessly to help her Aunt Virginia, and later her father and mother as they aged. She even began to collect stories and write the early life story of her father- she was so awed by him, as all of us were. Colleen always looked forward to playing cards with Mike and Missy or at Steve’s or Mikey’s house. Colleen was a supporter of the USO and Blue Star Mothers ever since her sons joined the Army Reserve- another fact that she was very proud of. When her sons started their own families – with women that Colleen loved so much- she became Nana and would drop everything to help out. She was the most supportive, selfless, caring mother and Nana- she was absolutely adored by her close family. Colleen also loved to travel with her kids and grandkids and had been from Maine to Florida to New Orleans, Louisiana (her favorite trip).
